Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
The department that I work in within West Midlands Police is called The Central Ticket Office. This is where we process all the speeding and driving offences. Day-to-day tasks includes processing the speeding tickets on multiple systems, communicating with members of the public by emails, calls and letters, getting all the relevant paperwork sent out to the public, processing responses that come through by post and getting it onto the system.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy this apprenticeship as it is something new, we gain new skills, we communicate with other departments within the organisation and we learn how these processes are done and how we can improve on those skills.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I previously worked in customer service prior to this apprenticeship, so there were skills that I had before starting. For example, I had customer service skills, talking to customers face-to-face and calling other stores with customer queries. I have developed this more as the customer service that we provide is mainly emails and calls. I have massively improved on my IT skills, using Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel as well as the internal systems. I have learnt many manual skills, learning how to work new machinery and learn different manual processes.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The structure of the programme is good. As well as learning the processes in the job role, we have 6 hours of study time a week to allow us to do our assignments. We have an apprenticeship meeting every month with our apprenticeship manager who delivers the PowerPoint and then sets us with the assignment due for the following month. Having this mix of the job role and working on assignments are good as it balances out learning and displaying ll the skills learnt in the job role and when it is time to do our assignments.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
West Midlands Police offer great support for those who need it. We have a well-being policy and safeguarding policy. Line managers can help offer support and colleagues within the department can help offer support too.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
We can always contact our apprenticeship manager via teams or email if we are unsure of a section in the assignment or if we need support for any issues that an individual may be having in or out of the workspace.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It has allowed us to be more flexible and to manage our time effectively.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I do not personally participate in any extra-curricular activities within the organisation but there are multiple activities that all employees and apprentices can participate in, such as rugby, football and ethnicity groups.
