Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I complete a series of different tasks throughout the office and my at home set up. The role itself is interesting and easy to learn. Some tasks are more difficult than others but the staff are friendly and provide really good training.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The apprenticeship work can sometimes be stressful alongside the normal work, however im managing it quite well, delivering almost all of my assignments on time if not early so far. The assignments are focused around my role and are relatively easy to do because of this.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have significantly developed my skills with different IT systems and software. Ive developed my communication skills as well. I regularly speak to people inside and outside of the WMP using both telephone calls and emails.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I receive lots of support from my apprenticeship manager, the weekly time i have dedicated to my assignment is always included when our weekly rota is made, I am given sufficient time to work for my assignment and any help or support i need from my apprenticeship manager is provided.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Sometimes our schedule quality of tasks we complete can be inconsistent. Our workload can heavily vary from day to day. My department provides quite good support whenever this happens, we are able to reallocate people from one task to another to deal with a department priority such as an unusual number of emails or posted letters to do.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My apprenticeship manager provides excellent support, anytime i have queries about my apprenticeship or the job role she is able to provide it to me within a short time frame and is super easy to contact. Often when i finish my assignments early, i am able to submit them to my manager for early feedback on them, where i can improve the quality of my work.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
there are some aspects of my apprenticeship that are helping me with my understanding og my role. For example, our assignments on structure, legislation and processes have furthered my own knowledge of those areas.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
No there is not many. The only ones i am aware of is the rugby team we have but i am not of the proper stature to participate. We also don't host many events or activities either.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend West Midlands Police to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I think its an excellent opportunity to find out how their own community works, as well as gather a better understanding of how the police works themselves. Outside of my role in the ticket office, there is excellent opportunities for career growth and development, you can easily move to different departments and units if you want to do something different.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to West Midlands Police?
Safeguarding yourself is a small fraction of working there that you don't really think of often, but is super important, especially with the current attitude the public has toward the police. But i think people should engage with their community's more and working for the police is an excellent way to do so.
