Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My day to day role is working outside shadowing WNT/AWNT learning about the water networks and listening for different types of leaks and how we can get them fixed. Also when we have alarms throughout the winter season we be prepared to face big bursts or major leaks and try to resolve them within the same day so it doesn’t affect our customers
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my programme as it allows me to be hands on working outside and being able to work to my own time and be able to be more flexible when working around other people. Also I really love this programme as it has a great salary as an apprentice as well as great company benefits and schemes you can join. Also this programme gives me a wider overview on water networks where in the future I can change my career path if I wanted to do so.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt many new skills such as,
First aid, Street works, Shea water, blue water these courses are a must and need to be attended to while on this apprenticeship programme to make us apprentices more competent and have to be able to work alone whilst out on the streets. I have also learnt how to listen for leaks and being able to concentrate on the specific noises and mute out other noises like traffic or people walking by.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

It’s very organised on the first day you go to the academy you get a sheet on all the dates you will be coming back and what you will be doing which is great to see what you will be doing whilst being out in the academy. And planning your holidays around the academy times
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive all the help I need whether it’s from my manager direct or my mentor I receive it all. The great thing Is i have is my team everyone chips in together and gives me a hand weather it’s for my practical assignments or theory everyone is willingly to help me out so I get great support

Yes I have been involved with some opening evening at Severn Trent where we can talk to parents/guardians about programmes we do here. Also I managed to get involved with a school in Foxford Coventry, to be on a panel representing Severn Trent as a company which was great to talk to secondary school students about apprenticeship programmes and what we offer as a company.

Why?
Great company, great benefits really good pay also we get bonuses throughout the company. Also when you go into your second year you get a pay raise.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Severn Trent?
Really research the company and who Severn Trent are who they work with and what they provide to there people. I think it’s really important to understand Severn Trent core values and how you can talk about them either at interview stage or whilst applying
