Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work within the Severn Trent New Talent Team, specifically working within Business Partnering team. I am responsible for a multitude of things, and have been apart of multiple projects within the team. My two main projects were: the creation of a brand new New Talent Intranet page, responsible for total redesign of content and design ahead of NAW 2026. One of my other projects was the creation of a New Talent Bible, which stretched across my first 6 month placement. My other responsibilities are helping to manage 2 different New Talent Inboxes, replying to general queries, redesigning New Talent Scheme redesigns along with many other tasks.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I genuinely love my programme so far, I've had a fantastic experience within my first placement with some great, meaningful work which I've been allowed to lead on. My team have been nothing but supportive and have had such a positive impact on my own personal development. I've never been so confident in myself. As a result I won a golden envelope from our CEO for my work. Id never have been able to do this without such an amazing team.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I've learnt so many new skills, particularly my soft skills such as communication and adaptability. Throughout my time in New Talent, there's been so many curveballs thrown at me which I've managed to overcome and learn from. I've learnt plenty of hard skills, some of which being how to use certain software's such as sharepoint web design.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is very well structured. 4 6 month placements around all sides of HR.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive plenty of support from my employer, having a team around me which are genuinely supportive makes me feel as if i belong within Severn Trent. If i were to need any reasonable adjustments at all, they'd be more than happy to make them for me.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Support has been reasonable, however I struggle sometimes with lessons being online only for 1.5 hours every two weeks. The content itself is fine but I'm not particularly academic so i do struggle. If I do need help i can send an email over to ask questions, but I suppose emails only do so much.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel that having the knowledge of HR does support me in my role, however it will be better suited to other roles. For example, when i have my placement within the HR hub, the knowledge i have of policies and laws etc will be much more valuable. However, the content which i am learning is proving valuable.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes there is. We have a website on our intranet called clubshub, where people can join different clubs which have been set up within Severn Trent. I personally have joined the Golf society, where we are in the process of organising monthly games.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Severn Trent to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would absolutely recommend Severn Trent to a friend. Ive had an amazing experience here nd no doubt everyone else would as well. The culture, the people, everything. Its great!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Severn Trent?
Really focus on nailing the online tests, these wipe out a massive majority of applicants, so its important to get this right. With regards to AC's, just be yourself and be a more sociable version of yourself (if you're not already sociable) this will benefit you massively.
