Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

We do rotations for the first 18 months of our apprenticeship to learn about the business and how each department operates, with me currently being placed in commercial. My day-to-day role in commercial involves estimating for and final accounting remits for Network Rail's Building Assets.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy working at CML and the Apprenticeship programme. there are lots of opportunities for me to grow personally and professionally. I have had the opportunity to go out on site, go to a quarry and even drive an excavator which is something i never thought i would do.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learned lots of new skills revolving around my job as a quantity surveyor, as well as developing my technical and IT skills, and my communication skills.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The Apprenticeship programme is very well managed by our training department. They were very transparent and open to communicate during the few months prior to me starting, ensuing i knew what was going on and what i needed to do. During the induction and throughout my time here, everything i have needed to do as a part of my apprenticeship has been very clearly explained to me and i feel confident i understand what is expected of me to successfully complete my apprenticeship. We have meetings as a cohort every 6 weeks, delivered by an apprentice, to discuss how we are all getting on and is also an opportunity to develop our presentation skills. We also have internal reviews each quarter to monitor our progress and see if we are at the level we should be or if we need any additional support.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I always feel supported by my training manager, line manager in the department I am in at the time or older apprentices who have been through the same thing. Everyone in each department i have been in have been amazing at making me feel welcome and part of the team. Working with them, i have been able to get the most out of each department i have been in.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

There is plenty of support from the lecturers at LCB when working on the assignments for my HTQ. They are good at explaining the structure of the assignment and each criteria we need to achieve to be able to hit the highest grade possible.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

While I learn a lot at college, I develop more in my role through work and learning from my line managers and other members of staff.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

The apprentice group often go on nights out as an opportunity to bond over a game of darts or shuffleboard. We also have a yearly golf event where anyone is welcome to have a few rounds at the local course one day after work. There is also a 5-aside football team.

Why?
It's an amazing working environment, everyone is really friendly, and anyone will stop and have a quick chat with you, ask how you're getting on in your Apprenticeship/Department, ask how you're doing. Its also a really professional environment at the same time, there are high expectations on me as an apprentice to be a good representative of the company and to perform well at college and at work, but this just pushes me to be the best I can be, which is something I really enjoy about working here.
