There is never two days the same as an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor at Balfour Beatty. My role includes taking measurements both digitally and on site, creating pricing schedules, interpreting and using contracts, communicating with suppliers, making payments and lots more!
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship. My colleagues always strive to ensure that I have the most well rounded set of experiences and learning opportunities as possible. This sometimes means handing over the ropes to me, giving me that independence and opportunity to make mistakes and learn from them, but it often also means guiding me through tasks and taking time to give thoughtful explanations to me at every stage. I feel happy coming in to work each day as I am learning so much and developing my skills set every day!

I have had so many opportunities to develop a wide range of skills, and even add to my skills!
Working in and amongst professionals has helped me so much with my confidence in communication, and presenting myself in a way that I desire. Before starting, communicating with people much older than me and with much bigger roles than me was certainly daunting, but now have no problem at all! I have also developed new skills using excel and measuring software such as Blue Beam.
