Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I have been with Balfour Beatty for 8 months now since starting July 2025. Their onboarding process for new starting (apprentices and graduates) is unlike anything else with such an extensive network of support, resources, and contacts that help new starts settle into their role.
In my role, my main responsibilities lie with carrying out regular inspection of the project and general housekeeping, ensuring all relevant records are filed correctly and kept up to date.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Love it

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Since the beginning of my apprenticeship, my all around computer and technological skills have improved tenfold. Alongside this, my communication and ability to take initiative in day to day tasks has also drastically improved.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is very well structured - I am set on block release to UHI, going for 3 weeks back to back every 2/3 months throughout the year, while spending the rest of my time in the office/on-site gaining practical work experience.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My line manager has been excellent at guiding me through anything I am unfamiliar with while also getting lots of support from the rest of the team
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Since my line manager did the same programme as I am currently on, he has been excellent at providing me with feedback that will help me with my university work.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The work done at UHI is quite a generalised Civil Engineering course so not all of it is relevant to the work that is done day to day in the office.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Balfour Beatty have been great at organising induction and networking events for people new to the business as well as there being regular activities planned within my team.
