Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I deal with finance and subcontractor's this includes managing change, payment and progress. I am involved in the initial selection of subcontractor through to final accounting and ensuring progress is as expected and in our budget. i ensure contracts are adhered to and raise the relevant Early Warnings and Compensation Events. I Issue invoices to our client for the works done to date and assess the applications from subcontractors for their works done to date.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Being part of this apprenticeship has given me gateway into the industry at a young age which i wouldn't have got otherwise. my Managers and colleagues have been extremely helpful and supportive with my progress

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt and developed many skills during my time, this includes improving my communication and time management skills but also learning different construction terminology and technologies. Ive learnt how to read and apply contracts. and also how to instruct, assess and accept Compensation Events

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I was immediately enrolled onto my Education side of which i attended one a week. During work i was put on the early careers programme which included bi-weekly calls to develop our general skills and 2 residentials for networking and building team building skills.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

My managers sit down with me once a week to discuss what i have achieved and what skills i want to strengthen to ensure i become a well rounded QS. Although i have had a few managers they have always ensured an in-depth handover to ensure that nothing is missed. My employers are always happy to sit down and explain anything despite their busy schedules. I have always felt supported and able to express concerns as they arise

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My employers always ensure i get my day a week for my qualification even in half terms when the college is closed. When i have assignments due or tests they are more than happy to give me time in the working day to complete these/revise. Any questions i have regarding my qualification or additional information required they will always help .

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It was great to understand the knowledge behind aspects on site, however i found it much more useful to be on site and be able to see/ experience things hands on.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Extra-curricular activities are constantly pushes across the whole company. I have attended a lot of networking events and attend a monthly catch up with my commercial team after work
