Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Meeting & greeting customers
Attending events at schools
Attending job clubs in one of the six towns of Sandwell and helping clients with job search support.
Helping advisors with briefing sessions to promote and help those apply to apprenticeships within Sandwell Council and around Sandwell.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoyed it. It has been a good learning opportunity as Sandwell Council as someone who doesn't have much experience within the working world.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have improved fully on my confidence skills and public speaking. I have improved on this through events where I am required to speak and promoted what our team does.
I have gained creative skills. I have improved on my pre existing skills such as time management, organisational skills and listening skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very organised and well structured. The whole team use calendars to book stuff in for appointments in regards of clients who attend job clubs.
We also have a database where we upload clients to the database we use on a daily basis. We upload interventions to each individual record on what support the individual received at their local job club.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive so much support from my employer.
My employer being Sandwell Council uploads training for me and Sandwell council members of staff to complete in terms of GDPR, data protection act and Safeguarding training.
There is also policies put in place such as Equality, Diversity and Inclusion to implement that the clients we work with and Sandwell staff each get an equal opportunity but also to be treated in accordance to their needs whether that will be a physical or mental health condition.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I received support on a daily basis from my training provider. I had a contact email in which I could contact my main point of contact being my assessor from my training provider.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I have passed my apprenticeship and did interview prep with my assessor before my EPA and passed. They helped me with my coursework, what I needed to and helped with deadlines by letting me know and reminding me what the deadline is.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There is multiple. Sandwell Council has events for Neurodivergent week and much more.

Would you recommend Sandwell Council to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Yes. They are a good employer and are a very open book to those with physical and mental health conditions and maintain the workplace and structure it according to their needs such as putting a lift within a workplace and around the building in different departments.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sandwell Council?
Always disclose if you have a hidden disability or physical one and a learning disability. This will help the council put the right support in place.
