Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My job is based in the labs, where I am primarily responsible for maintaining the shared equipment, giving lab inductions to new tenants, and disposing of hazardous waste.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoyed my role and the internal opportunities to get involved in training and visiting other labs around the university. My tutors (from CSR) were generally good, but could have been more organised and engaging.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have gained many practical and communication skills involved in running a lab. Additionally, I have been able to access useful courses that are not directly linked to my job, including a comprehensive First Aid at Work course that is valid for three years.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is generally well organised and the structure and end point assessment is clear. Sometimes the tutors have been unorganised regarding booking 1-to-1 sessions etc.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Lots of support from my manager, team, dedicated apprenticeship team, and my apprentice mentor.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Generally good support, although the workload has been very heavy at times with little flexibility.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It has been very useful for reminding and reinforcing my understanding of the science, alongside learning about regulations. It has also helped me to think about next steps.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Lots of networking events and a wide range of social activities, as I have access to many university clubs.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend University of Oxford to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a fantastic employer that cares about its employees, such as being generous with training and social events, flexibility, pensions. There is also a huge variety of roles and career progression pathways within the organisation.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to University of Oxford?
Do not worry about being academically gifted or from a particular background; the undergraduate students are very different to most of the staff.
