Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

In my role, I work as a Catering Manager at a private school. My interest is in FM, and i am currently doing a Level 4 Facilities Management apprenticeship with GLP training. It has been excellent, as I can work the service times for breakfast lunch or dinner at work, and the remainder of the time I can work on my apprenticeship. I am lucky to have may contacts at work who help to show me different departments and talk frequently with a Fm at another site.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy the role. It is enriching my learning and preparing me for my first role in the industry.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt a lot of new skills and management techniques from the apprenticeship, I just have to make sure I apply these and find opportunities to do some work in Gm sections of the business outside of my role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Fairly well structured. As it is a new course, there are frequently glitches in e learning and spelling mistakes, but nothing impossible to get around.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer allows me my apprenticeship time and lets me get on with it. I don’t have many people who talk to me about my apprenticeship but that’s just because I’m not in an FM role so they can’t help.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I get a good amount of support, with my trainer offering help whenever I need.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I definitely feel my qualification is helping me to manage more efficiently

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I love to get involved with networking events wherever possible , along with site visits. These are hard to come by and I have to reach out for them.

Why?

Sodexo is a very inclusive company, and I have been given so many opportunities from helpful people in many different areas. I don’t think many people get this much support from such a large company.
