Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
In my first year as a banking solicitor apprentice, I help keep transactions organised and running smoothly. I support the team by updating checklists, preparing documents to be signed, and coordinating with clients and lenders.
I also draft corporate authorisations like board minutes and resolutions, which has helped me understand how the governance side of a deal works. I regularly speak with clients to request information or update them on next steps, which has really boosted my confidence.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
One of the things I enjoy most about being a banking solicitor apprentice is the chance to speak directly with clients. Even early on, I get involved in calls and emails, which has helped me build confidence and understand how deals work from the client’s perspective.
I also really like the variety in the work. I get exposure to lots of different areas of finance and every deal teaches me something new. It keeps the job interesting, and I feel like I’m constantly learning and developing.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I've learned an incredible amount already, sometimes it feels hard to keep track of it all! I’ve picked up a lot of finance and legal terminology, and I now understand the basic structure of a transaction and how it moves from the early stages right through to completion.
I’ve also learned how important clear communication is. Speaking to clients regularly has helped me become more confident, and I now have a much better sense of what a good, professional email looks like.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
We have regular training sessions and introductions to all the different teams within Financial Markets and Products, which has helped me understand the bigger picture and how each team fits into a transaction. Our university study is respected by the team and our allocated study day is completely protected. Having that dedicated time each week makes a huge difference to managing the balance between studying and full‑time work, and it shows how invested the firm is in our development.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The team always takes the time to explain things, check in with us, and make sure we’re getting the right kind of exposure to different areas of law. We also have regular check‑ins with Early Careers, which gives us space to track progress, ask questions, and make sure we’re developing in the right direction.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
As juniors we have access to lots of networking events, and the team are great at encouraging us to go along and get involved. It’s a really supportive environment, and it makes it easy to meet clients and people across different departments and build connections.
There are also plenty of chances to get involved in sports and social activities. We have things like netball teams and a run club which make it easy to stay active and get to know people in a more relaxed setting and adds to the sense of community.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Fieldfisher LLP to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend Fieldfisher to a friend because it’s a genuinely supportive place to work. The training is consistent and the teams make sure we’re learning, not just doing tasks. People take the time to explain things, involve us in work that actually develops our skills, and check in to make sure we’re doing well.
There’s also a great culture here. Juniors are encouraged to get involved in networking events, sports teams, and social activities, so it’s easy to build connections and feel part of the firm.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Fieldfisher LLP?
The biggest piece of advice is to be yourself and let your personality show. The firm is very people‑focused, and they really value candidates who come across as genuine. It also helps to talk about experiences outside of law; show that you can bring something unique to the team.
