Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Primarily, my role involves building, deploying & testing new components to deliver functionality in Software-as-a-Service products. Day-to-day, this involves developing features in line with business requirements by writing clean, maintainable code & ensuring the components I develop integrate effectively with the existing system’s architecture through unit & functional testing.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I am really enjoying my degree apprenticeship so far, as it provides a strong balance between academic learning and hands-on industry experience, allowing me to apply the theoretical concepts I learn in university to real-world projects and strengthen my technical understanding and professional confidence. While the apprenticeship can be demanding due to balancing full-time work with academic study, I find this challenge motivating as it provides the opportunity to develop softer skills such as time management, resilience, and independence.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
For someone with no prior formal IT education, I have immensely strengthened my software development capabilities, particularly in building, testing, and deploying components in Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) development environments. Also, I have improved my DevOps knowledge regarding system architecture, version control systems, and CI/CD processes. In addition to technical growth, I have developed several softer, professional skills; working within an Agile team has improved my communication and collaboration, and I have grown more confident contributing to stand-ups, technical discussions, and sprint planning sessions.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The university modules I study are closely aligned with industry skills, allowing me to apply theoretical concepts directly to real-world projects. In the workplace, project work is structured using Agile methodologies, including two-week sprint cycles, stand-ups, retrospectives and sprint planning sessions.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
At Accenture, I am supported by my line manager, team members, and people lead who provide guidance on technical tasks, clarify requirements when needed, and offer constructive feedback to help me improve. In addition, I have bi-weekly check-ins with my people lead to ensure that I am progressing appropriately and balancing both work and university commitments effectively. When challenges arise, I feel comfortable asking questions and seeking assistance, which has helped build my confidence and technical competence.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
BPP University provides structured modules, clear assessment briefs, and defined learning outcomes & the lecturers are readily accessible for academic guidance and continuous feedback on assignments to support my desire to achieve a first-class degree. Regular progress reviews with my university coach help ensure that I am meeting apprenticeship requirements and staying aligned with both my academic and professional development goals.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The academic content provides the theoretical foundations behind the practical application I carry out on my client account, such as software architecture, software engineering principles, and development methodologies, which gives me a deeper understanding of why certain technical decisions are made within projects, rather than simply how to implement them.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
At Accenture, there are various opportunities to get involved in in-office social events (e.g., Boardgamers), networking sessions (e.g., Women in Tech breakfasts), and internal communities aligned to professional interests. There are also social- and well-being-focused initiatives, such as team socials and volunteering opportunities, to help strengthen professional relationships and foster a positive working culture.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Accenture to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Accenture provides a structured and supportive environment where I’ve been able to develop both technically and professionally. The opportunity to work on real-world client projects, collaborate with experienced engineers, and be part of cross-functional teams has accelerated my learning and given me meaningful experience that directly aligns with my career goals. The company also offers access to ongoing training, internal communities, and networking opportunities that support continuous development and career progression.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Accenture?
I think it’s important to have an understanding of core technical fundamentals relevant to the role you are applying for, whether that is programming principles, software development lifecycle concepts, or problem-solving approaches; Accenture values structured thinking & problem-solving, so being able to explain your reasoning clearly is just as important as arriving at the correct answer. Secondly, show a willingness to learn as Accenture can be fast-paced and is constantly evolving, so adaptability and resilience are key. It is also important to demonstrate strong communication skills as many client projects involve collaboration across different roles and stakeholders, and being able to articulate ideas clearly and work effectively in a team is essential.
