Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I manage enquiries that come through, along with the sales process and how each enquiry progresses e.g following up on fees sent, coordinating with directors etc.
I also create marketing content such as digital brochures, website pages etc and attend networking events to boost our company presence and increase company contacts.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my programme a lot due to the big range of interesting tasks I complete and it being different every day. Everyone at AG Surveying is friendly and supportive, which is key in a first job and as an apprentice. I believe it is the best first step for my career path and I am excited to progress further in the company.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed plenty of new skills such as time-management, due to having to manage my workload both in the workplace and at University. I also have gained lots of independence due to the amount of responsibility I have e.g calling clients to check in on a project and have boosted my confidence as a result of approaching new situations, like attending a networking event on my own.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My degree apprenticeship has run smoothly due to the high level of organisation in the business. This is due to things like weekly catch-ups with my boss to talk about my current and upcoming tasks, along with my University work, ensuring I am manging my workload efficiently. We also have staff reviews every 6 months where I can talk about how I feel at the business and receive detailed, constructive feedback to help me improve. I never am stuck not knowing what to do and receive plenty of support in the business.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive lots of support from my employer due to the weekly catch-ups I have with my boss where we go through current and upcoming tasks and ensuring my marketing plan is correlated. I also have weekly short meetings with my boss to go through the sales process and whether I should chase certain clients on the pipeline, along with any project updates to ensure the pipeline is up to date. This helps give me clarity and a better understanding of what I need to do with each enquiry, improving my sales skills. We also have staff reviews every 6 months where I can talk about how I feel at the business and receive detailed, constructive feedback to help me improve.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive a lot of support towards my qualifications due to the key marketing knowledge and experience I gain as a result of my training provider helping me with tasks, like designing and organising the website pages. He gives me good, detailed guidance before handing me over the responsibility of tasks, to help me gain a better understanding and to prevent me having any struggles. This also helps me to develop key skills for my qualifications such as commercial awareness, designing, communicating etc.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I perform better in my role as a result of my training provider due to the high level support he gives, such as the detailed level of feedback I receive after each task, helping me improve my marketing skills and also develop my listening and communicating skills which are key in my role. My training provider also helps me perform better in my role by giving me a big range of tasks in both sales and marketing to develop my time-management skills and ability to work to deadlines, helping me gain relevant experience.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I regularly attend networking events which I thoroughly enjoy as I gain the opportunity to talk to new people and boost my confidence. We all also go to badminton every Wednesday, which is a great way to build relationships with my colleagues and talk to people I do not regularly talk to in the office.

Why?
I would recommend AG Surveying to a friend due to the enjoyment of working there and the key skills and experience you gain. The office environment is always friendly and positive and you gain a large amount of support from both colleagues and directors. Due to the vast and large amounts of experience the company holds, you also gain lots of commercial awareness and knowledge of the industry, which is key for a career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AG Surveying?
Be yourself! Express your interest in both the business and industry itself, but also don't put too much pressure on yourself to know everything. Everyone at AG Surveying is kind and eager to learn, so showing you can fit into that environment will mean a lot more to our employers than what you already know.
