Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Role is as expected and exciting. Constantly learning through on the job hours as well as university inputs.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Effective delivery which isn't too time consuming and impacting on the job. Recent changes seem positive to reduce time in the classroom and more time out doing response policing where I can out what I've learnt in the classroom.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Learnt lots of new skills as well as developed on existing skills. Also have learnt lots to help me on the job to better understand the people I interact with daily.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Organised to an extent however I believe there is a slight disjoint between the provider (uni) and WMP in terms of timetables and communicating time off needed with supervision. This has an impact on rest days being adjusted and Sgts being able to ensure adequate staffing during this time.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
As above, a lack of understanding on the job when it comes to the degree and time off needed etc. Operational demand has resulted in peoples protected learning being restricted / cancelled - this has not directly impacted me as I haven't required any yet however I believe it could in the future.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Ongoing support available and regular check ins from Uni.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Helps understand the history of policing especially in specific communities more, helping better understand why some conflicts may exist. However I believe only practical hands on experience can fully prepare you for policing.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, although I have not taken part in any of these.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend West Midlands Police to a friend?
Yes
Why?
If it is something you're interested in and resilient enough to do its an enjoyable and rewarding job.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to West Midlands Police?
Listen at Tally Ho and constantly revise your powers / common offences. Keep up with local and national news so you're fully aware when it comes to communicating with members of the public.
