Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
The main objective is to help answer three big questions before construction begins:
Can we build it? (technical feasibility)
Should we build it? (cost, value, risk, planning)
How should we build it? (programme, procurement, strategy)
Pre-construction PMs reduce uncertainty, manage early risk, and set projects up for smooth delivery.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
1. Design & Consultant Coordination
2. Cost, Value & Risk Support
3. Programme & Pre-Construction Planning
4. Procurement & Tender Support
5. Planning & Statutory Processes
6. Stakeholder & Internal Coordination
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy it to a large extent. The balance between academic learning and practical experience works well for me, and I can directly apply what I learn to real pre-construction projects at work.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Taking the scheme from main contractor negotiation through to contract execution in recent months has significantly strengthened my commercial, contractual, and coordination skills, while providing valuable exposure to formal procurement, risk management, and governance processes at a critical project stage.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My programme is well organised and structured. Although the academic modules don't align perfectly with my role in pre-construction, i have a balanced base of pre-construction and construction knowledge now which makes it easier to apply theory to live projects. Key deadlines and assessment requirements are communicated in advance, allowing me to plan my workload effectively alongside work commitments.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a high level of support from my employer. I’m given access to experienced colleagues who provide guidance on technical, commercial, and contractual matters, and I’m encouraged to get involved in key stages of projects. I’m also supported with study time and flexibility around academic commitments, which helps me balance work and learning effectively.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I receive a good level of support from my training provider. Tutors are accessible and provide guidance on coursework and assessments, and learning materials are clearly structured to support independent study. Regular reviews and feedback help me understand expectations and areas for improvement while working towards my qualifications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel that my qualification supports my performance in my role to a large extent. Although the learning content doesn't aligns perfectly with my pre-construction responsibilities, it helps me understand the reasoning behind decisions made on live projects and enables me to contribute more confidently and effectively within the team.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, there are opportunities to get involved in extra-curricular activities at work. These include social events and team activities such as football matches that help build relationships across the business, as well as professional networking events and industry sessions that support wider learning and development. These activities contribute positively to team culture and professional growth alongside day-to-day work.

Yes
Why?
I would recommend Clarion Housing Group to a friend because it provides a supportive and structured environment for learning and career development. There are opportunities to gain hands-on experience across a range of pre-construction and development activities, access to experienced mentors, and a clear pathway for progression. The organisation also values collaboration, professional growth, and creating a positive workplace culture, which makes it a rewarding place to work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Clarion Housing Group?
My advice to others applying to Clarion Housing Group would be to show enthusiasm for learning and a genuine interest in the housing and construction sector. Be prepared to demonstrate your organisational and communication skills, as well as your ability to work collaboratively. It’s also useful to research Clarion’s values and current projects so you can explain how you would contribute to the team and the wider organisation.
