Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at EY?
My overall experience at EY has been a positive one. I have been able to gain invaluable insight into auditing financial statements whilst having the privilege to build my professional community and work towards completing my ACA qualification.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
I have worked within the Real Estate, Hospitality and Construction sector. This means that all of my audit clients main operations fall under one of these sectors. I have also had the opportunity to work on listed clients as well within these sectors.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
4/5
Audit as a job is ensuring that the financial statements on businesses are a true and fair view of the business they represent. The work is meaningful in nature. From day 1, you are made to feel that the work you do all fits into the bigger picture in ensuring that the audit is completed. As you gain more experience, you are also trusted with more challenging areas of the audit.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
3/5
I do not think we are poorly renumerated based on the market. However, considering the amount of work that we do and not being compensated for overtime I think EY could do a better job there.
Some of our perks include:
£500 spend account (taxable)
Comprehensive Health insurance
Rewards to choose from including travel insurance, gym memberships and dental insurance
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
I believe with the foundations in audit, it prepares me very well for the future.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
At EY, there is always formal training provided. You are very equipped through the training to do the job that is required of you. There has also been a huge focus on coaching and mentoring within the department which has significantly improved the on-the-job learning aspect of the experience.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
Everyone is so supportive. There are so many avenue and opportunities for support too. We have buddies, counsellors, apprentiship coaches, peer groups including a peer group manager, line managers, talent lead, people lead and other members of the department who are also willing to support.
How is your work-life balance?
3/5
In the quieter periods, the work life balance is fantastic. During peak periods/busy season, the days can be extremely long, deadlines tight and the barrier between work and rest can be thinned out quickly.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
EY prides itself in striving to build a better working world. There is emphasis on ensuring that everyone has an exceptional experience. Teams are flexible with hybrid working(except during peak periods) to ensure that work life balance is maintained.
How would you rate EY initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
4/5
There is a big push to ensure that equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility is embedded into our work and access to opportunities within the firm. I just wish that more employees used the thrive time (an initiative of days set out to ensure we are working on projects that help us thrive).
How would you rate EY CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
4/5
There is a big push to ensure that CSR embedded into our work culture and access to opportunities within the firm. This is especially pushed by the EY FoundationI just wish that more employees used the thrive time (an initiative of days set out to ensure we are working on projects that help us thrive).

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I think EY is a great starting point for anyone who seeks to start their career.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
5/5
The recruitment process is designed to ensure that you are getting to know about the business as much as the people. There is opportunity to ask questions and the people you meet during the process are a reflection of the kindness you experience at EY.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to EY?
The biggest advice I would give to anyone is to ask as many questions as possible. This and ensuring that you are the honest version of your self throughout the whole process.
