Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Unilever?
Experience at Unilever is very good, did my placement year here and enjoyed that so returned on the grad scheme as great opportunity to rotate around different roles within the function. Large FMCG company with lots of brands and good reputation as an employer. Enjoy working here.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Main roles have been in Global Reward responsible for the entire company's annual pay review alongside compensation and benefits. Also have been a HR Business Partner focused more broadly on strategy, recruitment, training and development. Current role as People Partner responsible for employee relations for a group of people.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
Feel a valued team member, can be challenging when starting new rotations as limited knowledge to contribute to the team but soon progress. UFLPs are well regarded in the company.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
Unilever is a median employer, get a pay rise and annual bonus each year depending on our performance. Also have a Benefits Envelope to contribute to pension or extra pay which makes the pay package more attractive. Get free fruit and ice cream and gym onsite.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
4/5
Preparing me well to get experience in a wide range of HR roles, unsure which one I want to do in the future.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
Mostly develop skills through on the job learning depending on what tasks and scenarios come up. Also opportunity for formal training sessions but these are limited.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
3/5
Get good support from LM but also have to learn to be self-sufficient once get more into a role. Have a Career Sponsor to have regular check-ins and career discussions. Future Careers team and others available for support if needed. Once we have onboarding, there are limited formalised events for graduates and the offering / training / events differ per function so it would be better if this was more consistent.
How is your work-life balance?
4/5
Generally easy to stick to my work hours and can slightly flex if needed. Some weeks and months can be more intense which is stressful and overwhelming but okay if these are not long-term. Working from home can make it hard to switch off from work.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
4/5
Welcoming culture, lots of employee policies for support
How would you rate Unilever initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
Diverse company, various initiatives in place
How would you rate Unilever CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
3/5
Used to be a huge focus of our company purpose but this has been overtaken by business results, still going on but less communicated about

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Great company to work for, graduate scheme gives opportunity to rotate around multiple roles to gain valuable experience and feel part of each team.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
4/5
Matched expectation, always unsure about which my next role is going to be as that decision is out of my control
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Unilever?
More focus on data driven decision making, research brands and business results rather than sustainability
