Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a Degree Apprentice in Enterprise Architecture within GDT, I support the EA team in shaping and governing Unilever’s technology landscape for a transformation programme being rolled out. My role focuses on supporting large‑scale transformation initiatives, through architecture documentation, tooling evaluation, and governance preparation. I work closely with Enterprise Architects to support technology decisions, contribute to Architecture Review Board readiness, and help ensure alignment between business strategy and technology delivery, while developing core EA capability through my apprenticeship.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my role in Enterprise Architecture as it combines strategic thinking with tangible impact. I’m constantly learning as well as working with knowledgeable architects, and contributing to meaningful transformation. It’s really rewarding to see how my work influence business decisions.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed strong skills in architectural thinking, stakeholder engagement, and technology governance. I’ve gained experience producing architecture documentation, supporting evaluations as well as preparing materials for governance forums. I’ve also strengthened analytical, communication, and organisation skills by working across domains, and supporting decision‑making.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My apprenticeship at Unilever is well structured and provides a great balance between hands on experience, learnings and study. Having a dedicated career sponsor has been particularly valuable, offering guidance, feedback, and support in shaping my progression.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a high level of support from Unilever. Line managers, career sponsors, and stakeholders are incredible and invested in apprentice development, creating a supportive environment enabling growth, greater confidence as well as successful progression throughout across my scheme.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
We have regular on site block weeks dedicated to module learning, during this time focus is solely on University commitments and not Unilever workload. This enables a great balance between developing academic requirements too. Each week we have one day which again is just for university to ensure we have the time to commit to both aspects.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Through learning different topics at university I am able to understand and apply them when I go back to the working environment. I can see how they apply in a real working work and the impact of different topics as well as understanding the benefits too. Its great being able to apply learnings to the workplace.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
We have a strong sense of community at Unilever and there are countless opportunities to get involved in, from sport clubs during lunch times to afterwork activities including yoga, lunch time walk club and much more. Many teams carry out social events to ensure team bonding, building and the sense of community away from the working environment. We also do several office events including most recently Easter bingo and raffles!

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend Unilever to a friend as it offers a genuinely supportive, inclusive, and development‑focused environment. There is a strong emphasis on learning and personal growth, giving future career employees real responsibility and trust. There is lots of encouragement for collaboration and innovation too. Working at Unilever has allowed me to gain valuable experience and build confidence, ensuring I feel part of work that has real, global impact.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
My words of advice would be to be curious, proactive, and just be your true self. Unilever offers huge support and exposure and if you take initiative and stay curious, you’ll gain valuable experience and confidence very quickly.
