HR Industrial Placement Student Review

As a HR Placement Student within Unilever's Global Learning team, I supported the design, development and delivery of AI learning initiatives aimed at building employee capability across the business. On a day-to-day basis, I worked with stakeholders to create learning content, coordinate projects, manage communications, support learner engagement activities and contribute to the rollout of the AI Academy, which reached over 2,500 employees globally.

I was given a significant level of responsibility throughout my placement. I took ownership of a range of projects, including supporting the design and launch of the AI Academy, creating digital learning content, coordinating stakeholder communications and contributing to learner engagement activities that reached over 2,500 employees globally. I also onboarded four incoming placement students, delivered presentations to large employee audiences and collaborated with stakeholders across HR, Employer Branding and external partners. These experiences allowed me to develop strong stakeholder management, project coordination and communication skills.

Yes, my placement enabled me to develop a wide range of new skills while strengthening existing ones. I significantly improved my stakeholder management, communication, project coordination and presentation skills through working with global teams and delivering learning initiatives. I also developed new capabilities in learning design, digital content creation, AI technologies, change management and data analysis, including working with large datasets and creating learning content using platforms such as EasyGenerator and Workday Learning.

I received a high level of support throughout my placement. From onboarding onwards, I was encouraged by my manager and wider team through regular check-ins, feedback and opportunities to take on new challenges. While I was trusted to work independently and take ownership of projects, guidance was always available when needed, helping me build confidence and develop professionally throughout the year.

Unilever had a very positive and supportive culture. I felt welcomed from the start and was encouraged to contribute ideas, take ownership of projects and learn from colleagues across different functions. The atmosphere was collaborative and forward-thinking, with a strong focus on development, innovation and helping employees grow their skills

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, as it gave me the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects while continuously developing my skills. Working on the AI Academy, collaborating with stakeholders across different functions and taking ownership of projects allowed me to make a real impact while gaining valuable professional experience. The combination of responsibility, support and development opportunities made it a highly rewarding experience.
