Overall, how would you describe your experience at Balfour Beatty?
I really enjoy working here, feels like you are looked after. I also enjoy my role dealing with something different everyday and is technically challenging in a good way.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Role as a OHL design engineer is to aid in the design of conductoring and subsystems. to explain in a simple manner, this is done through modelling of a Overhead line project in a software called PLS CADD which can outlet data that is manipulated and tabulated into report type documents. This allows for various checks to be done, such as clearances, structural analysis and electromagnetic field checks, and to ensure the project is up to the proper standards of the client and specifications.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

Benefits at work such as free meals, training away and free activities over the weekend. There are also discounts to many brands and services. The other day I got a free eye test at the opticians.

The job I do is quite niche and is not a subject taught in my degree specifically. My job role also crosses into many other fields such as mechanical and electrical engineering so a lot has come learning on the job.

I often work from home and can work flexibly. I live far away from the office (problem of my own) so days can often be long and tiring depending on the traffic getting home.

Generally relaxed atmosphere with an ethos on getting work done and making sure the quality of the work is high.

My office is very diverse and there is many opportunities to get involved in affinity groups of the above nature

There are weekly volunteering opportunities to give back to the community . some examples involve charity work and getting involved in the local community whether that is visiting schools or clearing up the local park.
