Overall, how would you describe your experience at Balfour Beatty?
My experience has been welcoming and exciting. I have been given lots of opportunities to develop and stretch myself across a variety of work.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Initially, I worked as a support function for the Asset Service Delivery Team. This involved a lot of ad-hoc analysis, which gave me a chance to hone my creativity and project skills in delivering analysis that can demonstrate real impact. I also automated performance indicators as a time saving solution, as well as ensuring we was consistently calculating our metrics in the same way each month. I moved to the digital team within a few months of starting and took on a lot more responsibility, looking after our cloud based data warehouse solution, which led me to be involved in data and analytics across the business and not just one function. I have slowly embedded better practices into the role helping to support the business' move to a central reporting model. I leaned on the experiences of calculating performance indicators for the Service Delivery Team and instead applied some of the approaches company wide. On a day to day basis, I am doing SQL development, taking raw data from ingestion stage and transforming it into cleansed interpretable data that can be reported on. Where possible, I am introducing innovative analytical tools, such as statistical modelling as well as honing the data using catch all logic.
