Overall, how would you describe your experience at Balfour Beatty?
My experience at Balfour Beatty has been highly rewarding. I began with a foundation of general knowledge and theoretical understanding of engineering, and over time I’ve developed significantly, both technically and professionally. My technical expertise has advanced through hands-on project work and exposure to complex engineering challenges. The company provides excellent resources, including a comprehensive knowledge hub filled with specifications, guidance documents, and operational processes that are accessible to everyone. On the personal development side, I’ve had opportunities to grow through training, mentorship, and collaborative learning, which have all contributed to my progression.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
My main responsibilities include:
Supervising subcontractors to ensure quality and safety standards are met
Working with BS specifications to maintain compliance
Setting out and managing engineering tasks on-site
Handling technical queries and providing solutions
Participating in design meetings to align project requirements
The aspects I enjoy most are the problem-solving elements and the collaborative nature of the role. Engaging with technical queries and design discussions allows me to apply my knowledge creatively, while supervising subcontractors and managing engineering tasks gives me a strong sense of responsibility and impact on project delivery.
