Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Data analysis by looking at recent sales data to inform decisions about the short & longer term. Liaising with different functions to ensure that products appeared in stores at the correct time & in the correct quantities. Using data from previous seasons to influence decisions on product types for planning the coming season.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Lots of responsibility given, I was given almost exclusive responsibility on compiling the lessons learnt from my subsection, presenting these to members of the leadership team. This analysis informed decisions on product ranges for the future. I built trust in my colleagues, meaning that they gave me more independent work to complete. I was constantly given my own mini projects to do that I would complete independently.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Lots of new skills, also improving existing skills such as excel & general computer usage. My presentation skills have improved massively over the year with lots of opportunities given to present in front of people in the workplace. Communication skills have also improved by collaborating with people across the business in a whole load of different functions to bring the products to the stores.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Lots of support was given, we were all assigned a 'buddy' who was within your team & had the same job role, this meant you had someone who could train you up but also be your first port of call if you had an issue. My manager was also brilliant at pushing us to improve & challenging us in a positive way. The early careers team were also always there to support us.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture is really strong, it is quite a young workforce but there are a lot of events on within the office to make you feel closer to those above you in the hierarchy. Lots of work has been put in to make it an enjoyable place to work, the company always seem to put people first which is great. There is lots of support networks within the business & a wide range of talks put on to learn new things, which most people come together to watch & discuss.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I absolutely loved my placement, it was really fun relocating to Dublin to work for a year. The placement scheme at Primark is brilliant as we had 40 of us who mostly lived in a student accommodation with each other, which meant that we made a lot of friends. The salary is very healthy, more than enough to live comfortably in Dublin. The work itself suited me perfectly & was enjoyable. The office was a lovely place to be with lots of friendly faces, leading to a great work environment. The placement scheme was brilliantly set up by the early careers team, to give us challenges throughout the year that regular employees would have loved to have had the opportunity to do. We were given plenty of responsibility in our work & had brilliant teams to guide us through the year. I have seen such a huge growth from when I first started to once I finished.
