Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Balfour Beatty?
The experience has been wholly positive. I joined a small team in the Major Projects arm of the business, and could not have felt more immediately welcome and supported. This feeling has continued throughout my career to-date!
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
As Proposals Writer I was responsible for:
- Authorship of key tender responses across Quality Submissions
- Conducting interviews with SMEs to generate content
- Editing, formatting, and proofing documents before submission
- Maintaining our internal Knowledge Library to support ongoing and future work.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
Working within a small team, I feel I really get the benefit of 'chipping in' wherever it's needed. I've been able to expand my skillset beyond writing, into Adobe design, public speaking, etc. This has been a great way to feel I am making a meaningful contribution to the team's successes.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
4/5
I
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
As above, I feel the broad skill set I am able to develop, perhaps outside of the guidelines of my 'role description', is preparing me for whatever technical skills might be required in my next role. I feel the breadth of people I am required to interact and collaborate with is helping me develop those softer skills crucial to working within a team that stretches across disciplines, and the UK!
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
The opportunities I have had afforded to me in my time at Balfour Beatty have been transformational. I took the chance to be an Engagement Representative for the wider team of about ~150 people - when I started in this role, I used to dread public speaking, and now I 'always say yes', and have recently spoken to our entire UK Work Winning arm!

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
Regular check-ins with my Line Manager, team lead, and others from across the business help me feel like I'm progressing in the right ways.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
Excellent - my line manager is well aware of my work load, and will regularly check in to make sure I'm striking the right balance!
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
Generally everyone is really respectful.
How would you rate Balfour Beatty initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
Great, it's quite visible across the business.
How would you rate Balfour Beatty CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
Again, visible across the business! Although, we have committed to using AI, and the environmental impact of this investment and usage hasn't yet been addressed by leadership.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Balfour Beatty to a friend?
Yes
Why?
In my experience, everyone in the business is committed to seeing you succeed.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
5/5
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
Be yourself, it's as much about the culture, your personality, and getting on within the team as it is about your technical skills. You'll learn on the job anyway, you've just got to be open and receptive to feedback - and willing to get stuck in!
