Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Balfour Beatty?
Really good so far, the team is very encouraging and attentive and there are loads of opportunities to get stuck in with.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
There's a year long rotational grad project through supporting functions like finance, HR, health and safety etc. which is great to get exposure in various parts of the business. I mostly have a supporting role, and basically do anything they want me to from health and safety reporting, to tender mobilisation to starting the wellbeing committee or organising open days for the depots.
I enjoy getting to work with senior leaders most.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
4/5
The more you get to know people, the more they want your help which is great
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
4/5
they subsidise travel when you have to go somewhere other than your home office. They'll pay for your 16-25 rail card too.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
Because there are so many opportunities to get stuck in with different parts of the business, you get a real flavour of what you enjoy and which skills you need to brush up on
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
Balfour Beatty Academy is great, they're recommending me to an IOSH course, I get to participate in external programmes and of course the trip to Brathay

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
4/5
Sometimes there is not loads of feedback however which can be frustrating.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
Output not hours means I have a great balance
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
3/5
It's very welcoming but because of the nature of the role, everyone is quite spread out which is sometimes frustrating
How would you rate Balfour Beatty initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
4/5
Lots of initiatives like affinity groups and women in rail things, but still lots of underrepresented groups but they are trying actively to change this
How would you rate Balfour Beatty CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
3/5
They encourage CSR but it's quite often logistically hard to complete

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Balfour Beatty to a friend?
Yes
Why?
great people, lots of mobility and job security
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
5/5
What it said on the tin
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
Really research the company and understand the culture before applying
