Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Balfour Beatty?
The two-year graduate scheme provided an excellent foundation for developing core project management skills in a dynamic and challenging environment. It offered structured learning combined with real-world responsibilities, enabling me to contribute meaningfully to planning, coordination, and delivery activities. The rotations and exposure to different teams helped build adaptability and a strong understanding of end-to-end project processes.
Throughout the programme, I honed skills in stakeholder engagement, risk management, and digital tools for reporting and governance. The scheme encouraged proactive problem-solving, collaboration, and continuous learning, which prepared me for progression into more senior roles. Overall, it was a rewarding experience that combined professional growth with impactful contributions to complex infrastructure projects.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Project Delivery: Supported the Sizewell project and other strategic projects, contributing to planning, risk management, and stakeholder coordination.
Survey & Technical Work: Managed survey trackers, drafted drainage and topographical specifications, and ensured compliance with quality standards.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

My team is incredibly supportive and always offer the opportunity to develop. They also are very happy to answer any questions of explain anything.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

As my site is based over 2 hours away i'm entitled to a company car, i asl am enrolled in the pension scheme. As well as this the salary is competitive and we have internal perks including discounted stores. There are many benefits on our portal.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

I've had an interest in project management for a while, so completing this grad scheme has given me the exposure and understanding of the role and requirements.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

There are many courses on the academy, and as a Graduate we are automatically enrolled into courses relative to our job roles. We also have a brilliant programme that allows us to travel to the Lake District and carry-out team building activities.

As a project manager, your role is broad so you may not have a full understanding until you get stuck in. But for me, as someone who enjoys being challenged and doing different things its perfect.
