Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at BAE Systems?
- Great staff and a good community of support.
-Hiring process based off of competency and values as opposed to purely technical ability leads to a community of people willing to help each other and learn.
- Senior staff very supportive.
-Opportunity varies massively dependant upon platform and specific role. Some offer very little compared to others.
-Changing roles if placed somewhere that is not suited to your skills/ aspirations can be challenging.
- Not as much direct involvement with products and services as would be expected.
- Very bureaucratic (cumbersome)
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Document creation
Programme milestone tracking
Meeting facilitation and engagement with key stakeholders
Visits to verify modification design proposals.
Interactions with customers and suppliers to confirm and adjust engineering requirements.
Identifying hazards, managing and mitigating them through the safety lifecycle, following the overall engineering lifecycle.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
4/5
Some teams have been better than others.
A lot of work feels very rinse and repeat.
But on the whole, it is good to know your contribution to overall programme success, and where warranted, contributions are often celebrated and discussed, even in little ways.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
4/5
Could have entered as a direct entry and got paid £10k more. Graduates feel a bit like cheap labour, especially in roles where they are working at professional levels within 3 months at the same as those who join the business through other routes.
However, flexibility within the role (can vary) is incredibly good, and overtime pay can be highly lucrative if allowed.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
3/5
Doesn't feel like the current role would lead me anywhere amazing. I have a better understanding of programme lifecycles, but other than that, the programme hasn't provided a great deal of learning .
Responsibility delegated varies greatly depending on circumstance.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
3/5
As above

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
Previous team was very poor. But current team is great, and anyone who can give support, generally will do.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
Flexibility in working hours is fantastic. Pressure can build, but is generally at very manageable levels.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
Welcoming, professional, and good attitude to hybrid working.
Large focus on SHE.
Several support groups available.
How would you rate BAE Systems initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
How would you rate BAE Systems CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
4/5
Could be doing considerably more environmentally. But a consistent effort is made

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
-Great on the CV
-Plenty of training and opportunities available all over the world if you really push for them.
- Great flexibility and generous pay considering responsibility and UK averages.
- Good attitude towards hybrid working.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
2/5
Applied for a completely different role, and lots of people are matches to roles which do not align with their skills.
The induction pipeline is disjointed and messy.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Learn and demonstrate the 3 values and 8 behaviours.
Be confident and approachable.
