Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
I have a brilliant manager and all Graduates are provided an instructor-led development course and 1-to-1 coaching over their 1st Year in Programme. We have the option to ask for a corporate mentor, and were provided buddies before we started the job to ease with onboarding and ask questions. We are extremely well looked after by our Early Careers Leads (permanent employees who look after Graduates, Apprentices and Placements) who are warm, friendly and advocate for us for whatever we need.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
The Graduate scheme at BAE Systems provides so many opportunities that I was well supported to take on as much as I wanted. I was more than happy putting the time in to extra activities and high-profile assignment that aided my development and networks, and it was certainly worth it. I'm supported to do hybrid balance and have flexible hours which allows me to bring my best to work. Always encouraged to get offline when I choose to work a little later. You get to choose but they advocate to look out for you, your peers and yourself in both mental and physical wellbeing.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
From day 1, I was happily surprised at the healthy and proactive culture in the company, very friendly employees who are keen to make you feel included. There is always more to improve but the culture is always openly actively seeking improvements wherever possible to look after employees physically and mentally.
How would you rate BAE Systems initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
The business put in the effort to advocate 'doing the right thing' especially around inclusivity, equality, diversity and accessibility issues. They openly endorse a healthy company culture using employee comms and make employees aware of the support in place. Employees can put themselves forward to be reps for certain groups. Language is inclusive and happy to improve and healthy attitude towards being more inclusive. Openly discuss equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility.
How would you rate BAE Systems CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
BAE Systems take part in multiple initiatives across all areas. For example, Graduate Project Managers are encouraged to start up projects that support local communities.
We also have Graduate Charity Reps on the Graduate Council that support the Company's pledge take part in annual charity initiatives such as:
1. The Great Tommy Sleep Out for the Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI) where employees brave an overnight sleep in a tent in the cold to recognise the experience and raise money for veterans,
2. Remembrance Day with the Royal British Legion selling poppies and volunteering
3. Blind Veterans UK to celebrate the 80th anniversary for VE day where employees were encouraged to take part in a charity challenge such as walking 80 miles over 80 days or another creative activity.
As a culture, employees celebrate volunteering activities that they achieve and are passionate about. Personally, my manager takes part in many veteran initiatives and openly supports and advocates for charity initiatives, many of the workforce are veterans themselves. With the Graduate Council, we have Social Reps across many sites that are fun, encourage networking, and generate collaboration within the business that support mental health.
