Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at BAE Systems?
It has been a good experience working at BAE, the team I work in have been super supportive and sought to integrate me into the team whilst showing me the ropes. Good exposure to the business as I complete placement rotations in my scheme so I learn about different areas of HR
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Engineering rotation
- Leading on People meetings with managers in the function
- Analysis of people data - areas of concern to follow up on with line managers
- Data analysis
- Answering general queries
ER Placement
- Leading on WTD - analysis of data - sending reminder to line managers of opt outs
- Collating updates for our employee guide
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
4/5
It has depended on placement - in engineering placement I was given more responsibility over other placements
Encouraged to lead and participate in meetings
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
Good salary
Hybrid working - ability to work from home
Free shares
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
Rotations work well to give exposure to different teams in HR which all inform each other's work - good for building network and breadth of knowledge that will stand in good stead for whatever exit role we have
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
I have found it develops different skills to what I developed at uni - big focus on excel and learning how to use databases
Building a big network in the business
Graduates complete personal effectiveness which focus on our own personal development, i.e. conflict management, growth mindset, learning how to communicate effectively with others

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
Good support system from immediate team, early careers for external support, also have access to mentor in HR and Corporate mentor with a senior leader in the business to review our personal development plans - everyone is very supportive and invites you to get involved in other businesses within the enterprise.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
Flexible working hours means we can work around our own commitments. I appreciate being able to start early in the morning and then finish early to allow for more time in the afternoon to do things I enjoy
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
4/5
Everyone is super supportive and you are encouraged to constantly ask questions no matter how silly they may be
My only criticism is that it seems a little authoritarian which mimics the processes the product we build - i.e. needing email approval to send an email that you would not expect to need approval - i.e. jsut reaching out to someone to get involved in a project
How would you rate BAE Systems initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
great ERGs who actively work with leaders in the business to inform policies
How would you rate BAE Systems CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
Barrow - strong partnership with the community to invest in the town, reduce carbon footprint and bring community back to the town

When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Look at values and behaviours and link back to your own experiences
Growth-mindset: focusing on what you learnt and what you have yet to learn
