Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Balfour Beatty?
My experience at Balfour Beatty has overall been great. Everyone I have met at the company has been understanding, kind and friendly. I feel the work is meaningful and well compensated. It is also very flexible in terms of remote working and travel. There were some hiccups in structure, in terms of understanding the format of the graduate scheme initially, and finding time to speak to some of the busier colleagues in the business but these were small points. I feel comfortable that I can have a long and fulfilling career at Balfour Beatty, with a career path that is customisable. I would definitely recommend.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
I have spent half my time so far working with Engineering Managers gaining experience in project/people management, working with clients and subcontractors, organising meetings and project administration. The other half of my time has been spent in the Underground Cabling team, doing technical work for the design and installation of substation cabling. I have enjoyed both of these rotations and feel like they fit in well with my goal of chartership with IMechE.

When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
Make sure to attend any keeping in touch days that you may be invited to. Also have a think about which rotations/job functions you might like to participate in throughout the programme. This would be something worth asking about during the induction.
