Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Balfour Beatty?
Overall my experience has been great. The opportunity to go to different areas of such a wide business and see how each finance area operates has been a great insight to explore roles across finance, commercial, and operational functions. With me I have been open to which rotations I did and not held back to certain areas of finance. I feel that this has given me a wide range of exposure and knowledge as well as giving me the opportunity to identify which areas of finance I like, don't like and know what my strengths and weaknesses are.
What sets Balfour Beatty apart is the genuine investment in early careers. From being invited to participate in the Graduate Assessment Centre for the next finance co-hort to seeing our ideas recognised on platforms like My Contribution, I’ve felt empowered to make a difference.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Responsibilities varied from each rotation and function but the main aspects including taking ownership of reporting periods such as weekly and monthly. An example of this is a weekly Timesheet download and distribution of reports to the commercial team for project finance within Highways. For Treasury this included assisting with cashflow forecasting, bank reconciliations, and strategic cash reporting. Weekly cash management distribution report and also a monthly treasury update report including competitors news, debt update. UKCS Regional Civils, Audit & Compliance included Participating in internal audits, preparing documentation, and ensuring adherence to financial controls.

When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
Definitely research the company before taking any interviews or assessment centres. if there are any tasks or projects which you have to prepare and present then do make sure to know what you are talking about and practice presenting so you are not looking at the screen and you have the peoples attention.
Do keep a look out for your emails (especially your spam/junk) as the company may be in contact with you from time to time especially when onboarding - this will help you first days be a lot smoother and easier for you.
