Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Beazley?
Highly positive! Everyone is really nice and willing to help you out, it feels like everybody is rooting for you to succeed. There is a huge focus on work life balance and that is reflected in the flexi hours and the benefits you receive. Also, it's a great place to build your network due to the office layout and non-hierarchical culture.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Building out Power BI dashboards and useful tools for analysis and demonstrating these to internal stakeholders such as Underwriters, Business Managers or Investor Relations.
Helping out with the innovation of actuarial pricing models by analysing whether new/different factors could influence claims in certain areas of business.
Analysis of datasets and reconciliation of numbers.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
4/5
I feel I contribute to work that is actually being used by stakeholders instead of being delegated meaningless tasks. I am definitely valued in my team as I have been given the opportunity to develop skills that others in my team may not have.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
Lifestyle allowance to spend on yourself every month, travel to the office paid for, free lunch in the office, work from home set up and many many others I haven't explored yet.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
4/5
I am getting exposure to many different areas of the actuarial function and insurance as a whole which is rare in a graduate scheme.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
I don't find a do a huge amount of formal training as a lot of my job is much easier to learn on the job but that is definitely a positive for me as I believe it's good to be challenged in a safe supportive environment.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
When I first started I had a very big support structure such as buddies, study mentors, business/career sponsors, line managers and a large cohort of other graduates. As time has gone on this support structure has naturally lessened which has allowed me to feel independent and trusted. This is definitely a huge positive, especially as a graduate.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
Flex working hours allows for a great work life balance, if I need to leave a little bit early some days or start later I can.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
4/5
Everybody is so nice from the second you walk into the office. Hybrid working is encouraged as well which allows you to stay on top of things at home.
How would you rate Beazley initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
Many different networks within Beazley to support equality and diversity such as Beazley SHE which is the womens network, Beazley Proud which is the LGBT network, the Young Professionals Network and many more!
How would you rate Beazley CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
A volunteering day a year is encouraged, Beazley has a big effort to reach a certain amount of volunteering hours every year. Also Beazley tries not to create lots of merch / do lots of printing since a lot goes in the bin anyway which is a good initiative for the environment.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Beazley to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Beazley is an all round brilliant company. The culture, the work life balance, the benefits are all really really great. A lot of my friend group all work in insurance or general corporate jobs and I definitely have the best company culture.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
5/5
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Beazley?
Be respectful to other candidates in the hiring process, actively listen in the group exercise and decide whether to challenge or support, and sometimes saying less or nothing is better than saying lots of meaningless waffle. Finally, it's cliche, but be yourself and relax!
