Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I was based in the structures team in Leeds. The majority of my placement was spent working on the intern projects. I was involved in some bidding, and a project for Crown Estate Scotland for 3 weeks.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given a small amount in regards to billable work. This is due to there being hardly one work available and I'm sure I would have been given much more if possible. The Crown Estate Project focussed around ground truthing gave me lots of responsibility though. I was regularly leading the site times as many were unsure on what to do and I was confident.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I've developed my CAD skills but not really any technical skills as I haven't had the opportunity. I have learned a lot about team work and networking mainly which I think is my main takeaway from this whole internship.

As much as I required. I always had multiple people I could talk to and rely on for help. I never felt alone in the work I was doing, always supported by those in my team.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The atmosphere was great, my team bonded really well and spent a lot of time together outside work. The company culture is nice. Lots of opportunities to get involved

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I really enjoyed my placement as a whole but this was mainly due to my team and spending time with them. The work itself was limited, although this couldn't be helped. The small amount of billable work I did was enjoyable but outside of that it felt almost pointless, like I was being set work just for the sake of it to keep me busy rather than actually contributing to anything.
