Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

My role as an ecology consultant was to assist on field surveys across the North of England including, badger, otter, watervole, bat and great crested newt surveys. This would be about once a week and sometimes include an overnight stay at a hotel. On the days i wasn't out on sites i was in the office or working from home (totally optional), helping to write reports, watching camera trap footage or doing bat call analysis amongst other things.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes i was given work to complete on my own but i was never stressed as i could always call people to ask questions. The work wasn't always the most interesting or challenging but it was still work that needed to be done and i was happy to help so they more senior staff could focus on important work.

Yes, learnt a lot about protected species and how to spot signs of them in the field. This is amazing knowledge for applying to jobs in the future.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company has a very laid back approach which i think allowed people to be happy in the office. There were socials each month (some with alcohol, some without) which helped people mingle and make friends in different teams. Everyone in the manchester office was lovely.
