Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Very much so!
The whole AML team and everyone at Scotiabank was deeply invested in my personal learning and growth. A lot of support! Whether it was from my manager, or three levels above me - the whole team was supporting and ready to help whenever I was unsure of something. Everyone was invested in my success and wanted the interns to do well - they were always willing to help by volunteering their time to answer my questions or help my projects. Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture is a true highlight of working at Scotiabank. The people are so genuine, friendly, welcoming, and warm. I think the branch benefits from the resources of a large organisation, but still maintains the intimacy of a smaller branch. There is a lot of collaboration between teams, and everyone is super friendly and sincere.
The Early Careers Team also contributed immensely to the positive intern experience at the bank. With bi-weekly socials that emphasize team building and bonding - the interns very quickly became friends with each other - making for a very nice culture amongst the interns, too. People try to help each other out - and their is collaboration instead of rivalry. Ultimately - the culture is truly excellent. It's a wonderful place where you can bring your whole self to work.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I enjoyed it immensely - the internship surpassed all my expectations. The AML team and whole London branch was so welcome, friendly, and genuine - I really felt like I was a part of the team - a testament to the bank's incredible culture. Everyone was so eager to help and happy to explain their role/the business/their desk that I've learnt so much during this internship. Not only have I learnt so much about AML, and the three lines of defence, I've learnt a lot about capital markets, corporate and investment banking, legal, compliance, and risk because people were so generous to volunteer their time to speak with me.
The Early Careers Team have also made this internship overwhelmingly positive and unforgettable. Their hard work in supporting the interns, through networking events, socials, and intern presentations has allowed interns to learn so much and truly grow professionally and personally while at the bank. Their advocacy to connect interns with senior leadership is another highlight of the program - which really makes this experience stand out.
Ultimately, this was an excellent internship. I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone considering applying. I had the most amazing summer with the Scotiabank team and have learnt so much!
