Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at CGI?
Excellent. The graduate scheme in particular is very supportive and they make an effort to encourage learning and progression wherever possible, while also making sure you have all the tools needed to feel emotionally and mentally supported.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
My main role has been as a test engineer and I really enjoy the problem solving aspects of this. I feel like there is never a day where I don't learn something new and I am always being challenged.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
4/5
My team has a standup every morning where we share what we've been working on which makes it feel like everyone is connected and aware of how their work is effecting others.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
We have a number of benefits including company shares, high pension contributions and a free sports and social club for your first year as a graduate, among many other things. These make me feel like CGI is committed to making their employees happy and rewarded.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
I feel like I am given enough opportunities for learning and growth and have also made a lot of new contacts who will help guide me in the future. CGI is also very flexible if you would like to switch career streams and roles so I don't feel stuck in my current job.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
I have had the opportunity to gain qualifications in AWS and ISTQB through formal training since joining and have also been experienced a lot of on-the-job training.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
CGI does a good job to provide all new joiners with buddies and has a mentorship programme as well to help. I receive the support I need from my manager although it can be a bit tricky to feel connected if you are doing a lot of remote work.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
CGI's flexible working hours definitely make it easier to manage my work-life balance and I am not often required to do any overtime.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
4/5
I find CGI to be a very inclusive company and they do a lot of work to encourage this and provide training on how to improve your own personal actions in this regard. I find the culture very welcoming and fun, with my local office often putting on special activities for holidays or breakfasts to welcome new joiners. It can be hard to feel fully integrated however if you are doing a lot of remote working, as I was when I did hybrid working.
How would you rate CGI initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
4/5
How would you rate CGI CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
4/5
I have volunteered to help with a couple of virtual career fairs for school children, and helped host a stand at the Cheltenham Science Festival and Royal International Air Tattoo, where we tried to get young children interested in STEM. I think that CGI works hard to support these kind of events, and others such as litter picking, charity bake sales, Walk with the Wounded, however, I always believe that more can be done and no organisation has a limit to the amount of work they can do.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend CGI to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I believe CGI is a very supportive and encouraging company to work for and they are willing to invest in their employees to ensure everyone is the best version of themselves, while also trying to ensure that everyone feels cared for.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
4/5
I did not know specifically what role I would go into upon joining - I had assumed software engineering but I am actually in testing which is slightly different but still uses the skills I gained from university. The responsibilities and expectations put upon me are what I expect for a graduate. In retrospect, however, I would've liked to have been provided more information about what I would be doing, prior to my start date.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to CGI?
Any kind of work experience will set you apart from other candidates - whether that's a week of work experience or a full year in industry - and will also help you feel a lot more prepared to enter the industry.
