Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Managing client incidents, communicating with other teams, transporting shipping containers, posting traffic cones, presenting and preparing monthly financials for the unit, shadow work, university days, lectures, assignment work, meetings with uni reps, document review, emails, administrative jobs.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
As you progress through university, the material gets exponentially more interesting as they have to cater to everyone at the beginning. Additionally the industry can be stressful balancing the work and uni life. The work is interesting for the most part however there are definitely dry spells, that is the case for any company though.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
C#, Java, incident management, Excel, communication skills with all ages and job levels.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Pastorally, along with university life, the support is great, the skills coaches make sure you're on track at all times. They care for your wellbeing and offer you everything you need to succeed.
In the rotations, there can be 6-12 months on an extremely busy project, then 6-12 months with little to no work at all, regardless of the additional work requested, extremely dependant on the line manager/project manager and resourcing.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My line manager is great, he's understandable when the university workload is too much and he listens to my concerns to action them. Overall, there have been other examples where this was not the case for certain apprentices, and they were not listened to nor their concerns, again, completely dependant on who you are assigned to.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
If i require extra time to complete assignment work they support me. They communicate with the university and offer extra support/mentoring/certifications to progress my career.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
MMU is excellent overall, they are communicative, clear and act on their feedback, they are receptive to improvements and the material they provide is current and useful towards my job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
It is completely upto you, there is a sports and social club at each office, they organise concerts, days out, go karting, musicals, ice skating etc you name it (at a very affordable subsidised cost too). University life is also important, apprentices have the same ability to be a student, participate in societies, sports, clubs, representatives etc. not only to explore your interests, but to meet students your age. The Association Of Apprentices also holds networking events, social evenings etc.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend CGI to a friend?
Yes
Why?
CGI is a great employer for Early Careers, their team are communicative and supportive, genuinely some of the nicest people you have ever met. They understand you are human, need assistance and do their best to try fit around your needs, their salary/bonus incentive is competitive for an apprentice, they offer relocation help, DSE equipment, travel costs etc. My colleagues are also great people, in a welcoming environment, they do a top job.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CGI?
Don't use AI for your application, let them know why your passionate and what skills you have that will show your passion, along with what you wish to get out and give in return, it doesn't need to be a lifelong dream, just a passion and a will to put it into action. Leadership examples will help too.
