Vacation Scheme Review

The vacation scheme is absolutely incredible. Taylor Wessing has an extremely supportive culture with colleagues at all levels willing to provide feedback and insight to vacation scheme students. I felt extremely welcomed and integrated within my department. Each day contained a combination of insight sessions on each different practice area, working within the department and social events. Within my department, I was given real, client-facing work every day, as well as research tasks in very interesting areas of law. My supervisors made a real effort to provide me with research tasks that were interesting and engaging. We had focus sessions each day, which gave insight into each practice area at the firm and provided the opportunity to ask questions.

As a full service firm, there are so many different practice areas, so there are a lot of different roles available. It was extremely interesting to learn about the business and the ability to work in a very broad range of practice areas within a training contract. There is extremely exciting and interesting work going on, in addition to great business development initiatives.

We completed a group presentation as part of our assessment which developed my communication skills and ability to think commercially. By completing client facing work and receiving feedback, I was able to look at contracts from a strategic perspective, rather than solely considering the legal aspects. Being in a busy team also helped me build greater time management skills.

The culture is really impressive. Everyone at the firm, including partners, are incredibly approachable and receptive to questions. They really embrace curiosity and welcome questions. There is an extremely friendly and collaborative culture, everyone within my teams and more broadly throughout the firm are truly lovely people, which made me feel very welcome on my vacation scheme. I was so impressed to be a part of such a wonderful culture at a firm with a very high quality of work.

I really loved it. We had focus sessions each morning of the scheme. Every department gave a presentation on the work they do and the work which trainees get involved with. It was great to gain perspective on new practice areas which I previously did not know much about. It also means that if you do not get to sit in your preferred seat, you will still gain insight into the practice area. We also had a pro bono workshop, which gave amazing insight into some very meaningful work which the firm get involved with and the opportunities to get involved as a trainee.
