Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.

The scheme was structured to include multiple workshops a day, providing insight into the firm's key practice areas such as ECMA, IPDR, and Real Estate. It also included a Pro Bono workshop which provided an overview of the unique work they do in that area. There was also a group project, which provided the opportunity to learn about one of the firm's cases in greater depth.
There is also the opportunity to get involved in real life matters such as sitting on calls and research tasks. I really enjoyed how I felt I was contributing to the firm while also learning more about what a trainee would do. The team was extremely friendly and made me feel welcome.

How would you rate the structure of the insight

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?

It was really interesting to learn about the diverse teams in the firm. They really highlighted their differences in work. I particularly enjoyed learning about the variety that IPDR and ECMA are involved in.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

While it was a lot to fit in one week, it felt like a great way to showcase your time management and get a feel for what it would be like to work in a law firm. You also get to develop your communication by seeing how other lawyers communicate their workload and implement that yourself.
You also develop faster research skills. I was worried I took too long on my first task and was rushing and towards the end I managed to complete a task within the estimated timeframe and took longer for others to ensure thoroughness rather than struggling.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The people were so welcoming and nice. My supervisor and buddy introduced me to members of the team and those that I got to know I felt I started developing a real rapport despite being there for such a short time.
