Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
I sat in two different practice areas during the vacation scheme. I worked on a variety of tasks such as legal research, sitting in on client interviews and legal drafting. I also attended practice area sessions and Q&As, where lawyers talked about their experiences working in a certain practice area.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
The practice area insight sessions, speaking with others in my practice area and in other teams gave me a deeper understanding of how trainees, associates and partners collaborate to work on client matters.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I improved my legal research, written/spoken communication skills and presentation abilities (we had to complete a group presentation). The scheme also helped me build my time management abilities.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone I met was incredibly nice and willing to help out or chat. The general atmosphere was welcoming, and I felt comfortable asking questions and reaching out to people!

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I thoroughly enjoyed the vacation scheme. I had exposure to different areas of law and my work was varied. The fellow vacation schemers, Early Talent, trainees and lawyers were welcoming and friendly, making this experience enjoyable, insightful and full of learning!

Don't be afraid to use experiences beyond work and academics that demonstrate your skills. The firm values and appreciates creativity and individuality. Also do not put pressure on yourself to be someone you are not! Reflect on your motivations for applying to the firm and be open-minded to learn about new areas of law.
