Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Day-to-day I work closely with my line manger supporting me with daily queries from the markets, reporting on the markets results from our customer satisfactions surveys and working on reporting, running and developing our Dealer recognition scheme called Yushu. I am in constant communication with our supplier and market contacts to assist them in running and developing our programme.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I had many of my own responsibilities as well as my manger splitting her responsibilities with me. I have daily tasks to complete without any managerial interference, but my manger was always there if I needed assistance or if I had any questions. My role took on all of our reporting which was a large amount of responsibility. My manager and I got involved in activities that were new for us both and meant we were both learning and developing.

I have developed many soft skills including formal communication, teamwork, time management and networking, as well as hard skills such as Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and data analysis.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I had a large amount of support and guidance. The handover period between undergrads significantly helped me get up to speed with my daily activities and responsibilities. After this period my manger continue to support and answer all my questions. The wider team were also more than happy to answer any questions I had.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
All associates at Honda are welcoming and friendly and are always happy to help with any task you may have. Throughout the year you are encouraged to learn about the business and its culture. HR are very open to feedback and any problem you may have and are happy to try accommodate.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I have really enjoyed my time at Honda, mostly due to my line manager. She always ensured I was happy and confident in my work as well as teaching me about the wider business and giving advise around future jobs/careers.

My advice would be to research the company prior to any interviews; ensure you know what the role consists of and have any questions prepared in advance. Once at Honda I'd say to ask for further development, take opportunities offered and network with associates in areas you may be interested in.
