Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I travel between sites, clients, wholesalers and our main office performing electrical installation, commissioning and testing. Sometimes I work alone and sometimes I work with others. For me, the work itself is varied in nature- sometimes I work in one place for a week and sometimes I am working across a number of places. It often involves coordination and planning with others, especially clients and staff.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme well and consider myself in a great position to learn and advance. Daily tasks can vary and like many positions there may be times that are difficult or challenging, but most of these can be learned from and accomplished. I'm particularly looking forward to the continuining options that open up to me as time goes on, which will broaden my daily tasks and responsibilities.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I've definitely learned a number of new skills. These cover a vast range from technical expertise, people skills and knowledge. Key skills I have developed have been electrical fault finding, problem solving, time management and tactful communication.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My programme is, both from training provider and employer, well structured. I would say that some aspects could be organised better, particularly from the admin side of the training provider though this is a rare occurrence. Communication from my employer is stellar and we are always encouraged to speak up regarding any positive and negative feedback or suggestions.
Although I understand the changing whims of business, from the standpoint of an apprentice it would be nice to have a more consistent and prior knowledge of weekly plans. Granted, the working hours of my day are often very consistent.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
As aforementioned, we are encouraged to share both positive and negative feedback, as well as suggestions or improvements. I personally feel that my employer is open to dialogue and would consider and place adjustments moreso than other companies if and when necessary. This has been proven somewhat recently, when temporary adjustments were made for an employee whose circumstances had changed suddenly despite the company not being obligated to do so.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I feel that the courses are well structured, with all relevant details passed along to us in plenty of time. The training provider employs quality staff who make sure resources are available throughout and push us to learn and achieve.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
There are times when some things at work with my role might pass over my head; Others where I have been able to mitigate problems, reason with the situation and overcome difficulties. On both occassions, my qualification with my training provider may have had a large impact. Sometimes knowledge and understanding accquired through a qualficiation may outscope what could be learned day-to-day in the role. Truly, both experiences combined create a better learning environment.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
We do sometimes have work socials, or get togethers at the pub. Other times, we have had team building exercises. As an example, we went paintballing late last year and myself and a few others went to the London EV Show.
