Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
During the apprenticeship, I also attended several work trips, going to London and the Birmingham Snow Show for large events within the Snow sports world, attending trips to Val D'isere, Val Thorens and Arinsal, all which provided me the opportunity to make valuable connections within the snow sports world with well known people throughout.
Snow Camp were also well positioned to provide support to me throughout the whole apprenticeship and provided every opportunity possible for me not only to become a better snowboarder, and instructor, but also to grow as a person and learn valuable life skills, primarily in my experience being based around improving my social skills.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
It also provided me the opportunity to create connections with a large and diverse group of different people that will be able to provide me ongoing support as I progress after the apprenticeship.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Snow Camp were pivotal to me overcoming my social anxiety, giving me the opportunity to progressively get more comfortable to speaking to large groups of people, and being able to make more meaningful connections with people I have just met. By the end of the apprenticeship, I was able to talk in front of a large room for a fundraiser, and walk onto a lesson and confidently build relationships with participants in quick succession.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?
How much support do you receive from your employer?
I was provided with lots of support and check ins from my manager whenever I was completing larger tasks.
during periods where my manager did not have a chance to check in, I received either messages or calls to ensure I was alright with any work and workload provided.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
Finally also gave the chance to go through previous work and feedback together.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
It also helped me push myself to work with larger groups and maintain control when ability levels may differ which happens regularly on lessons I now teach.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
Recommendations & Advice
Would you recommend Snow Camp to a friend?
Why?
I have gone on to start working as a snowboarding instructor and adaptive instructor, I am now preparing to go for my ski instructing qualification and working towards being able to do seasons abroad.
my apprenticeship with Snow Camp has been the best year of my life and given me a clear direction in life.
