Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Throughout the apprenticeship, I had the opportunity to help several groups of young people, learn how to both ski and snowboard for the first time. During this, I worked with 'DOUK Snow,' DSUK, Ellis Brigham, Ackers adventure, Inghams, and Tamworth Snowdome. This both helped me to prepare for a career within Snowsports as I learnt many valuable skills as a snowboard instructor, learnt how to ski, and about adaptive snow sports. Whilst also providing me the chance to expand my knowledge and learn about the many other opportunities and careers available within the world of snow sports.
During the apprenticeship, I also attended several work trips, going to London and the Birmingham Snow Show for large events within the Snow sports world, attending trips to Val D'isere, Val Thorens and Arinsal, all which provided me the opportunity to make valuable connections within the snow sports world with well known people throughout.
Snow Camp were also well positioned to provide support to me throughout the whole apprenticeship and provided every opportunity possible for me not only to become a better snowboarder, and instructor, but also to grow as a person and learn valuable life skills, primarily in my experience being based around improving my social skills.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
This apprenticeship ignited a passion for snowboarding which has helped me feel more secure in life as I now feel I am set in what I want to achieve within my life, and helped me set goals with a clear pathway for me to follow. Snow Camp also provided me with brand new experiences that helped me grow as a person and overcome a life long anxiety that stood in the way of me reaching life goals. Every day with Snow Camp bought new experiences that helped me learn many new skills and opened the door for a path in life that I saw unobtainable.
It also provided me the opportunity to create connections with a large and diverse group of different people that will be able to provide me ongoing support as I progress after the apprenticeship.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I had the opportunity to gain valuable qualifications, such as my level 2 first aid, safeguarding, community activator coach level 2, and the chance to take my alpine and adaptive BASI qualifications to start instructing either snowboarding or skiing.
Snow Camp were pivotal to me overcoming my social anxiety, giving me the opportunity to progressively get more comfortable to speaking to large groups of people, and being able to make more meaningful connections with people I have just met. By the end of the apprenticeship, I was able to talk in front of a large room for a fundraiser, and walk onto a lesson and confidently build relationships with participants in quick succession.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Snow Camp is structured in a way that will be familiar to every new coming apprentice already from already being participants during this. Throughout the year, it is split into 3 sections. Firstly, it starts with 'First Tracks' which provides 2 large groups of young people their first look into snow sports and ongoing wellbeing support. this runs until the start of Autumn where it then, after a short break, switches to 'graduate' which presents those who would like to continue, from their introduction during the summer, onto further Snowsports progression. Finally, what leads after another break from the start of winter until the start of February is 'excel.' this is the final 10 weeks of the course and allows for the final progression in their Snowsports before they start learning about how it is instructed. This also starts providing the young people with valuable skills such as first aid and the chance to meet important figures within the Snowsports world across varied different professions. It then finishes with a trip to the mountains for the young peoples first impression of Snowsports on real snow in ski resorts. Between these progressions is when you'll complete different work placements and coursework towards your community activator coach.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I received access to wellbeing support whenever it may of been required.
I was provided with lots of support and check ins from my manager whenever I was completing larger tasks.
during periods where my manager did not have a chance to check in, I received either messages or calls to ensure I was alright with any work and workload provided.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I received 1-2 calls a month from my tutor to ensure that I was ok with any work that had been provided, and understood everything. It also gave me the opportunity to ask any questions about the work I may not understand, as well as check if progress I had already made was applicable or if it could be approved.
Finally also gave the chance to go through previous work and feedback together.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel I am better prepared with plans for a variety of different ability lesson plans and different exercises for when plans do not progress in the expected way whilst also ensuring exercises are enjoyable, safe, and will improve skills.
It also helped me push myself to work with larger groups and maintain control when ability levels may differ which happens regularly on lessons I now teach.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
