Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I assisted the programme manager (Scotland), in the running of the programmes, on slope sessions and in classroom sessions. I went on various placements within a ski centre and another charity, learning various new skills and work experience. I also had the amazing once in a life time opportunity to get to go on trips abroad again learning new skills and work experience. This apprenticeship gave me a second chance and allowed me to gain various qualifications and once in a life time opportunities.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I absolutely loved the apprenticeship, I gained valuable life and personal skills. It also gave me opportunities that I would have not been able to access prior.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I gained my BASI Level 1 Ski Instructor Qualification at the end of the apprenticeship. Throughout the apprenticeship I learned various skills in the aspect of youth work, running of sessions. This allowed me to be able to improve on personal skills, such as working on my confidence and being able to speak in front of large groups of people.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme was very well structured and organised by my programme manager and also the charity as a whole. There was always a thorough plan given about what we were doing.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

The support I received from my programme manager and also the charity as a whole was amazing, any concerns or worries I always felt confident and comfortable to speak about.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I was supported the full way, we regularly completed personal development plans which allowed for continuous improvement by allocating goals.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The qualification I gained allowed me to have the confidence and experience to chase a career in not just the snowsports industry but the outdoor industry as a whole.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There was always the opportunity to go abroad for various work experience and also as support on the residential with the young people. I was also given the amazing opportunity to go abroad for a ski season to training for my Level 2 Ski Instructor.

Why?
As it has given me such an amazing and once in a lifetime opportunity, in which has allowed me to pursue a career and the confidence to do so.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Snow Camp?
Go for it, apply and go for an interview! It has changed my life and I wish I could do it all again!
