Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As a support worker in an adult residential home, I provide personal care, emotional support, and practical assistance to residents, promoting their dignity, independence, and well-being. I support daily living activities, monitor health, ensure a safe environment, and work collaboratively with families and professionals to deliver person-centred care.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
The L&D apprenticeship has significantly enhanced my ability to support both residents and colleagues more effectively. I’ve developed a deeper understanding of how adults learn, allowing me to deliver engaging, inclusive training that improves staff confidence and care quality. It has strengthened my communication, coaching, and reflective practice skills, enabling me to mentor new staff, identify learning needs, and promote continuous improvement within the team.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I’ve learnt new skills such as delivering engaging training, conducting learning needs analyses, and using evaluation models like Kirkpatrick’s. I’ve also developed existing skills in communication, mentoring, and reflective practice, which have improved how I support both residents and colleagues.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My L&D programme is well-organised and structured, with a clear progression of learning activities that build practical skills and theoretical knowledge over time. It includes regular reviews, on-the-job training, mentoring, and structured reflection, ensuring learning is applied effectively in the workplace.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive strong support from my employer, including regular check-ins with my line manager, opportunities to shadow experienced staff, and time allocated for study and training. This support has been key to applying what I learn in real work situations.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive consistent support from my training provider through regular tutor sessions, feedback on my assignments, and guidance on how to apply theory in practice. They are responsive to questions and provide helpful resources to keep me on track with my qualification.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I believe my qualification will continue to enhance my performance by deepening my understanding of learning and development strategies. As I progress, the knowledge and skills I’m gaining will allow me to take on more responsibility, support colleagues more effectively, and contribute to improving training and care standards in the workplace.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, there are several extracurricular activities at my workplace, including staff wellbeing events, team-building days, and occasional social gatherings. These activities help strengthen team relationships and create a more supportive, positive work environment. There are also opportunities to attend professional development workshops and care-related networking events.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Priory Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend Priory to a friend because it offers a supportive and inclusive work environment where staff development is genuinely valued. The team spirit is strong, there are great opportunities for training and career progression, and the focus on person-centred care makes it a rewarding place to work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Priory Group?
My advice would be to show your passion for caring and willingness to learn. Be honest about your skills and experiences, but also demonstrate openness to training and personal development. It’s important to be patient, adaptable, and ready to work as part of a team focused on person-centred care. Preparing examples of how you’ve supported others or handled challenging situations can really help during interviews.
