Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
At the time of my apprenticeship I was looking at additional training to support my career goal of becoming a team leader (from a clinical role). I was a practicing Health Visitor with additional Team leader support responcibilities after doing a 8 week stint as a Team Leader on secondment. My role changed significantly during my apprenticeship and I obtained a full time team lead post in october 2020. Prior to this is was line managing some support workers and supporting team leaders with anything i could relate to my apprenticeship learning. After becoming a Team Leader i was able to utilise the skills learnt in the apprenticeship much more readily and apply my learning to my everyday work. Managing a team of Health care professionals as well as the entire locality at times, ensuring rotas and ledgers are set, organising and chairing team meetings, appraisals, clinics, Clinical tasks, learning and development and leading on a Maternal Early Sustained home visiting program across the entire county.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoyed my leadership program, and it set me in good stead for my team lead role and on to the promotion into my current role. IT was not easy to time manage the apprenticeship work into my working life and I spent a lots of outside work hours completing the projects, but considered this worth while time spent to enhance my career prospects.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I learnt many new skils during my Level 5 Leadership apprenticeship. Managing workload, time management, Prioritising, understanding people mananagement, talent management, how to get the best out of people, managing difficult conversations, project management and processes to name few.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme was well structured and i believe quite newly developed in its delivery format at the time. I believe learning from the delivery team has enabled them to make necessary improvements, such as developing the protfolio from the start of the programme rather than waiting till the end to then have to go back and put it all together.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer at the time was very supportive - i was lucky to be able to increase my working hours from 3 days a week to 4 days a week in order for me to complete the apprenticehsip - this ment my apprenticeship time was well protected as, to most , i was still working 3 days a week. For full timers taking on the course and having to find time in their already busy schedules, i belive this was more tricky.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The support was alwasya available and helpful
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
As described earlier and being new into leadership and management role I felt this has really given me an effective foundation to enable me to become an effective leader. Time managment, coaching, difficult conversations, talent and people management skills, project work...the list goes on.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
WE had networking events within the apprenticeship cohort and doing the apprenticeship gave me access to management experiences that i otherwose would not have been invitied to attend. Strategic management meetings, Quality meetings etc.
