Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I care for the youngest of our David Lloyd members day to day. We run a free play Crèche where we feed (milk), change nappies and let out children nap. We have a range of toys out for our children and promote imaginative play and exploring their senses. We do singing with action songs and encourage mixed play between age groups as well.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have really enjoyed this programme so far as I have now been able to put knowledge behind my actions and further developed my planning skills to best support the children in our care. I understand the importance of why we do things.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I’ve developed time management skills when planning the activities and time schedule for the day.
I have also further developed my communication skills as daily I deal with our youngest members, their parents and grandparents.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The structure of the programme is really good and my tutor and I have further altered the structure to better suit me so that I can get my work in quicker and meet my deadlines sooner. We meet once a month online and then have a review every quarter on how I am progressing.
My tutor also comes in for observations every 6 months to see how I’m getting on and to watch me work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My Managers are really supportive with me completing my work and getting what I need out of the course. They’ve tackled hurdles well like when my mentor left to join another company but my managers didn’t let it affect my course or performance as they had a solution before there was even a problem.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My training provider has been so supportive. When I joined my meeting to make sure the course was right for me and I was the right fit for the course they noticed and said that I have the knowledge of a qualified person who’s worked in a full time nursery for years as a pose to someone isn’t qualified and who works in a morning crèche. Because of this they checked with their supervisor and instead of putting me onto the level 2 qualification they put me forward for the level 3, something they wouldn’t normally suggest. I knew from the get go that they were looking out for me and my best interests.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
By completing this qualification I have been able to better support the children in my care. Like when I completed my child development module I was taught about the checkpoints to look for and for the children to be aiming ti complete (ie sitting without support) and I was able to implement that within our setting to help parents and support the children to reach what is needed.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
We often have “staff classes” ran for us to be able to get to know people in other departments and have fun with it. We also do a club conference every 6 months to hear about goals and achievements for the club and also have a bit of fun with one another.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend David Lloyd Clubs to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Working for David Lloyd has so many benefits, like the free membership but also allows for us to network and get to know lots of different people, whether that be members or other employees.
The opportunity for an apprenticeship is something that is made clear to all employees and through each department.
David Lloyd changed from a part time job during my school studies to my full time job that is now allowing me to compete a qualification in an aspect that I love. I love my job and to be able to be put through this apprenticeship process has made me love it even more.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to David Lloyd Clubs?
Be yourself, there is a space for everyone in this company. If you look after the company, they will look after you but also visa versa. If you work hard for your job, managers will notice that and help you out with everything they can.
