Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Community nursing for children with learning disabilities. Lots of work with children and their families around challenging behaviour. Visiting schools and homes to complete observations and assessments. Liaising with other professionals who support the child/family. Safeguarding.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have enjoyed the programme although it has been tough at times. Sometimes communication between university, practice educators and the workplace has not been as good as it could have been. I have enjoyed all of my placements and learning.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I began my nursing degree apprenticeship without any previous healthcare experience so I have learnt a lot of new skills. My work base is not clinical, however I have learnt a lot of other skills from being in my work base and have utilised placements and university skills sessions to gain more confidence in my clinical skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
As the second nursing degree apprenticeship cohort at the university there were still some changes to be made and communication hasn't always been great, for example apprentices being missed off of communications sent out. This has improved as the course has gone on and feedback is listened to.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My line manager and the team at my base have been very supportive and have helped me to get through everything on my apprenticeship. I could not have done it without them.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
There is always support on offer in the form of 1:1 sessions, drop in's, academic support and support from the library services as required.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I will complete my apprenticeship as a qualified nurse.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are some activities. The team I work within do also have our own activities we do as a group outside of the work setting.
