Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I support a team of economists with data queries as well as undertaking economic and policy analysis. Support with data science and undertake modelling.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I really enjoy my work and I get a lot of responsibility which I enjoy, my colleagues are very supportive too. The learning at university is very poor as is the support from my employer.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I've learnt how to program and new methods for analysis and working with data. I work a lot with stakeholders so communication and stakeholder management.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
Very poorly. The university doesn't have a clue what it's like to be in the workplace. Seminars are organised at random times in the work week making them nearly impossible to attend. No support from the program in terms of meeting other apprentices either
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
Very little. My job doesn't relate much to my university qualification. HR doesn't provide any support or organisation. No structure to expected responsibilities, different apprentices have very different experiences. However, my colleagues are exceptional as are management.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
Very little. No in person interaction with teachers all online and the content is to a very poor standard making learning very difficult. Excessive amounts of admin detract from the amount of time spent studying
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
It doesn't. The two very rarely relate
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are but you have to have the initiative to take these up. No support from HR when you first join in organising event and encouraging socialisation. There are a lot of different events including sports teams and my social events organised within the team

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Bank of England to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It's a good place to start your career. Pay is low but the work is interesting and you can get good opportunities. Is very dependent on which team you are in and who your managers are.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bank of England?
Unsure
